“Quality Education for All” class is prepared as part of the “Learn & Act” educational program of the Sunhak Peace Prize designed to introduce diverse approaches to global peace issues. Have you heard the story of Malala Yousafzai, a girl who risked her life to defend her right to education?

During the Taliban occupation of Pakistan, Malala was expelled from school because of the Islamic law introduced by the Taliban. She wrote an article on her blog calling for equal rights to education for girls and was shot by the Taliban. Malala, who was able to recover with the international community’s help, made the world think about what education means to children worldwide.

What is Education?
Education is the process of teaching and learning all the actions necessary for life. Human beings can grow and develop through education. Such education is also a driving force to lead the lives of the poor toward a better future. In other words, the more equitable educational opportunities are, the stronger the capacity of individuals and nations can be.
Global Education Status and Causes of Education Deprivation
According to UNESCO research, children in sub-Saharan Africa, Central Asia, South Asia, and the Pacific Ocean are not getting a proper education. Education deprivation is even more pronounced for women, accounting for two-thirds of the world’s illiteracy.
The causes of educational deprivation include international conflict, child labor, early marriage, climate change, shortage of teachers, and poor environment. You can learn more about this in our teaching materials!
Covid-19 and Quality Education

Recently, with the prolonged COVID-19 pandemic, there have been fewer opportunities for quality education. Globally, more than 94% of students are out of school due to policies such as temporary school closures, and 63% of children suffer from educational poverty. Efforts to eliminate discrimination in education are needed while establishing a digital education system for quality education in the post-COVID era.
What can we do to help resolve the poor educational reality around the world?
In order to resolve the current global education problem, it is necessary to achieve universal primary education while expanding opportunities for women. To effectively accomplish these goals, creating an educational environment from a macro perspective is necessary. It is essential to build a quality education infrastructure while nurturing teachers with expertise.
We should pay attention and try to find solutions to problems occurring worldwide through education.
