The ‘Learn and Act’ training of the Sunhak Peace Prize is an educational program that teaches young people in middle school and older on diverse approaches to global peace issues. Through this training, we aim to provide a learning platform where all global citizens can learn and act on global peace issues.

Learn & Act provides educational packages (ppt for class, teacher guide, student activity sheet) for teachers!

The details of each training are based on statistical data from international organizations including the United Nations. Teachers can conduct lessons through PPT slides to students by referring to the class guide they are provided with.

This training material is ‘Raising global citizenship’!

Educational materials are structured so that students can consider how each individual can act to become a mature global citizen.

The ‘Raising Global Citizenship’ class begins by introducing students to the conceptual definition of global citizenship and the meaning of existence. Subsequently, diverse issues that should be of interest to global citizens will be introduced. Courses are included to help students develop global citizenship.

Are you usually interested in news from diverse countries around the world?

As can be observed from the global spread of the coronavirus infection, the issues of the global village require cooperation from not only countries but also from around the world. Hence, in the current global era, global citizens are required.

Then who are global citizens?

Global citizens are interested in diverse global issues based on a sense of community in order to create a global village where they can live together; they actively take action to solve such issues. Such global citizens perceive themselves as a member of the global community. Global citizenship is the idea that we should have rights and obligations as global citizens.

What are the values that are important to global citizens?

We can also educate ourselves about the 4 important values that global citizens should possess. These are human rights, interdependence, diversity, and sustainability. This is because we all have human rights that we should enjoy as human beings, and all people around the world have an interdependent relationship with one another. We must respect the diversity that arises from racial, religious, linguistic, and cultural differences and recognize the need for sustainability for the long-term growth of human beings.

What issues should global citizens be concerned about?

There are a total of 17 common human goals that the UN General Assembly in 2015 decided to achieve by 2030. This is under the slogan of ‘no one is left behind. This allows students to comprehend the seriousness of the problems that are taking place in the global village and to consider the causes.

There are four steps that are required to form global citizenship. First and foremost, we must recognize the diverse problems that occur in the world as our own rather than in the perspective of a bystander. Afterward, we must awaken our intellect to seek diverse solutions and form diverse relationships based on interconnectedness. Last but not least, as global citizens, it is necessary to work together globally to analyze the causes of problems, eliminate related causes, and solve the problems.

A checklist is provided in the student activity sheet to check the maturity level of global citizenship.

Students reflect on how mature they are as global citizens and can consider what they can do in the future.

Moreover, the training is structured so that we can think about what kind of efforts we can make as global citizens by examining the achievements of various international organizations leading as a global citizen, Malala Yousafzai, a pioneer in education in Pakistan, Dr. Gino Strada, who saved the victims of conflict zones, as well as former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon.

Thus far, we have introduced the training materials on the topic of global citizenship development prepared in ‘Learn & Act’ and the current global status. We hope that it will be of considerable aid to those who wish to educate people about global citizenship!

These materials have been translated and provided in 7 languages including English, Arabic, Chinese, Spanish, French, and Japanese as well as Korean. Further to the topic of global citizenship, we are providing training materials on diverse international issues, thus please continue to pay attention!
