The Rotary-Club Heidenheim-Giengen will be collecting money for the fight against genital mutilation with Waris Dirie, the New Chamber Choir of the Schiller-Gymnasium, and the State Wind Orchestra on May 12th.
The Rotary-Club Heidenheim-Giengen and the New Chamber Choir of the Schiller-Gymnasium have collected well over 150,000 euros in donations in eight sold-out charity concerts so far. On Sunday, 12th May, another highlight of this successful partnership will be starting at 5 pm. As part of the German premiere, the “Symphony No.5 Return to Middle Earth” by the Dutch conductor and composer Johan de Meij will be heard together with the Landesblasorchester Baden-Württemberg.
The startling fundraising theme of the evening: young African girls and women who are to be saved from the inhuman procedure of genital mutilation. Passionate fighter against “FGM” (female genital mutilation) is the ex-top model Waris Dirie. Her autobiographical novel “Desert Flower” caused a worldwide sensation and brought genital mutilation into the public eye. Thomas Beckh: “It’s fantastic that Waris has promised Dirie about the concert. She will introduce her request personally to the concert visitors.”
