The CAMERA WORK Virtual Gallery presents the Beauty of Women IV Exhibition, and portrait of Waris Dirie is part of the exhibition. The exhibition presents 45 works by more than 20 artists from 1949 to 2018.
Beauty is not only defined by idealized imgaes. In “Female Beauty IV,” Yousuf Karsh’s portrait of Mother Teresa and Elliot Erwitt’s photograph of Simone de Beauvoir testify to the fact that beauty beyond appearance is also based on behavior.
The exhibition also features portraits of supermodels such as Naomi Campbell, Waris Dirie, Kate Moss, and Claudia Schiffer, and of actresses such as Monica Belluci, Audrey Hepburn, and Angelina Jolie.
Waris Dirie
Waris Dirie is a supermodel and a human rights activist who had dedicated her life to advocating for the rights of women and girls. She became the Sunhak Peace Prize laureate in 2019 for her efforts to fight for women’s rights and for the eradication of female genital mutilation (FGM).
Waris Dirie exemplifies how true beauty extends beyond mere appearance to include one’s behavior and character.
