Food supply and Peace
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of African Development Bank
If you take human development and agriculture, it really makes me very sad. Every time that I see wars and conflict and you go and look the areas that have the highest number of hungry people in the world, and also the same in Africa, are the areas that have conflicts. So, it means, wherever you have guns, rumbling guns, you also going to have rumbling stomachs.
But, it works the other way. Wherever you have rumbling stomachs, also it leads people to get angry and sometimes leads to wars and conflicts and fight over resources.
So, there is a connection between food security and improving livelihoods for people in rural areas and the poor, and peace and stability of our nations.
