The Great Challenge Without Fear
Dr. Akinwumi Adesina, the President of African Development Bank
I am somebody that is never afraid to take big decisions.
My view is that, if you take big decisions or big steps, with good intention of helping the poor, God helps you to succeed. Because, it’s not about you. it’s about what you got to do for those cannot do it for themselves.
So, I have no problem, always doing big things and take big risk for the poor, I do that all the time. And, it does get people scared.
I think one of the things was, when I organized the Africa Fertilizer Summit in 2006 in Africa, it is still today the biggest gathering of leaders about agriculture ever in the history in Africa.
That’s exactly what’s happened. 40 heads of state ad government showed up and for fertilizer for Africa Green Revolution, which was remarkable.
That is where all the work started on how to drive green revolution in Africa.
So, I think it’s part of exciting to do big things like that. I think that’s one thing.
And also, I get a lot of support when I see the fruits of what I am doing, the lives of the poor, it gives me, it’s like a tonic, it gives you a drive of energy, it’s worth the effort, it’s worth the risk, when you see the smile of the faces of those that you are helping, then you have the courage to do even more.
