[2019 Sunhak Peace Prize Laureate] Education, the key to eradicating FGM

Waris Dirie, A Human Rights Activist Who Publicized the Issue of Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) to the World
For the last 5, 6 years now, ‘Desert Flower Foundation’.
We focus on one thing.
That is education, and I believe that to change anything in this world.
You need to be educated.
You have to be informed.
And you have to be aware.
So, education is the key and that is the direction we have been going for the last 10 years.
We have schools in Africa that we are building to educate girls.
We have more than 1000 girls.
We have three schools at the moment in the middle of construction, and that’s a good thing. That’s the way we are going, and this is the direction.
Education.
We need money, to build more schools,
And at the moment, the school’s in West Africa, but I want schools all over Africa for girls.
So we’d be grateful if we get any kind of support in any way.
And we don’t just need money, we need volunteers.
Beautiful people with beautiful hearts who will join us to spread this and get the job done faster.
