In Africa, only one out of 30 schoolchildren owns a schoolbook.
Many pupils can neither read nor write even after four years of school attendance due to the severe lack of school supplies.
42% of the African population are still illiterate – most of them girls and women.
Statistics show that the educational crisis promotes poverty, a high birth rate and FGM.
Only if we invest in education we will be able to eradicate FGM.
Due to this fact, Waris Dirie wrote in cooperation with pedagogues together “My Africa-The Journey”, the first reading book for children in Africa and will distribute it to African children together with a Desert Flower Power Education Box.
“The distribution of our 10,000 Desert Flower education packages in Sierra Leone exceeds all expectations. That’s why we’re expanding the action now! For only 10 Euro you can give a child in Africa a reading and practice booklet, six colored pencils, a sharpener and a wooden ruler. xx Thank you so much! Love & Peace, Waris ❤️❤️🌷”
